Two Professors to Debate Rulings in 2000 Election
Two university professors from opposite ends of the political spectrum will face off next week in a debate about the U.S. Supreme Court’s rulings on the 2000 presidential election.
The event, which will also examine the future of the electoral process, is part of the Reagan Forum series sponsored by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.
USC law school professor Erwin Chemerinsky, a nationally recognized authority on constitutional law, will represent views from the left. His writings focus on professional responsibility, civil procedure and mass media law, said Olga Badilla, library spokeswoman.
Speaking on behalf of the right will be professor Douglas Kmiec of Pepperdine University School of Law. Kmiec, also an expert in constitutional law, has served as head of the Office of Legal Counsel for Presidents Reagan and George Bush.
Moderating will be Warren Olney, host and executive producer of “To the Point,” a co-production of KCRW-FM (89.9) and Public Radio International.
The forum will take place Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 40 Presidential Drive. Dessert and coffee will be served. It is open to the public and free of charge, but reservations are required. For more information, call 522-2977.
