Bicycles on the Subway

Re “Bicyclists Find Subway No Easy Ride,” Jan. 21.

It seems to me that the real problem is a lack of planning by the MTA. Why didn’t they allocate space on the subway cars for bikes? We cyclists deserve some respect and credit. We’re doing our part to reduce pollution and congestion. Yet we’re not allowed on the subway during peak hours. Doesn’t make sense, does it?

I think there’s a simple solution. I can understand that a bike should be secured while it’s in the subway car. Therefore, why not spend a few bucks and modify each car so there is a bike storage area? Metrolink did this. Once this is done, however, just don’t prohibit us from riding because the car is too full. (Apparently, this is Metrolink’s policy, too). Like you, we have to get to work on time. When these cars get crowded, why not throw another car onto the train? Why not have a few people stand up? I’ll gladly give up my seat for anyone. No big deal. Just don’t throw us off the train.
