Cal State Fullerton Enrollment Is Up 7%

Spring enrollment at Cal State Fullerton has increased about 7% this year, with as many as 25,200 students expected to attend classes when the new semester begins today.

Last year’s spring enrollment peaked at 23,539, campus officials said.

The coming semester brings a variety of new courses, ranging from strategic Internet marketing to women in law.

An emphasis in foreign language may also be enacted this spring. The university’s Academic Senate is expected to consider a proposal in the next few weeks to require all graduates to demonstrate a proficiency in a foreign language. As proposed, native speakers of a language other than English would be able to take a test to satisfy the requirement. English-speakers would be required to take two years of a foreign language or four years of high school language courses to graduate, officials said. The language requirement, if adopted, is not expected to take effect until 2005.
