Christian Music Fest Draws Thousands

From Times Wire Reports

Thousands of concert goers sloshed about in mud and pitched tents to hear some of the country's top contemporary Christian rock performers at the 11th annual Celebrate Freedom concert in Plano.

It has become one the largest one-day Christian music events in the country. Attendance burgeoned from 78,000 in 1998 to 170,000 last year, and organizers expected about 200,000 this year.

The first concert was held in 1991, with tensions high in the Persian Gulf, as a way to lift people's spirits, said Keith Nelson, of KLTY-FM, a Dallas-Fort Worth Christian radio station that sponsored the event.
