Two People Killed by Train
Two people were killed early Sunday when they walked into the path of an oncoming Amtrak passenger train.
Veronica Sanders, 41, of Oceanside and Derek Norton, 36, of Anaheim died around 12:30 a.m. when they were struck by the southbound train traveling at 85 mph, said James Buckley, an investigator with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“They were with friends and came from a bar,” Buckley said.
The train conductor saw Norton carrying Sanders as they walked onto the tracks, Buckley said. The crossing guard was down, he said.
The train was traveling from Los Angeles to San Diego.
