Police said a 42-year-old man killed three people and wounded four in a late-night shooting spree in the small town of Rifle.
Mike Stagner, a Rifle native believed to be living in Grand Junction, was being held without bail in the Garfield County Jail in Glenwood Springs. Police said the motive for the shootings was unclear.
Officers said the incident began when a man was reported waving a pistol in a supermarket parking lot. When police arrived, he apparently fled to a nearby trailer park.
Stagner was being held in the Garfield County Jail on three counts of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder, a prosecutor said.
