Worker Killed While Unloading Onion Truck

A Lancaster man was killed when he was run over by a produce truck Monday morning while unloading the vehicle at the Philip Giba Farms onion plant in Lancaster, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Shortly before 11 a.m., Carlos Hernandez, 57, motioned for a truck that he was unloading to pull forward, and he slipped under a wheel, police said.

Hernandez suffered massive trauma to his head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Department and Cal/OSHA were investigating the accident.
