Probe Focusing on Disney Contractor

Share

A Laguna Hills contractor hired to make pink tiaras and magic wands for Walt Disney Co. is being investigated for allegedly allowing Orange County women to work from home for less than minimum wage.

The contractor, KTBA Inc., hired 30 to 70 women over the last month to assemble the trinkets at their homes for 60 cents apiece. State labor officials said the company does not have a license to employ people to do such industrial work at home, nor does it have the license required to manufacture garments.

Disney spokesman Ken Green said the company has stopped shipments and any marketing of the items worldwide pending an investigation. He said the tiaras and wands were being made for Halloween costumes, but the volume of the order was unclear.
