A 600-ton crane at a Shanghai shipyard collapsed Tuesday, killing at least 36 people, the official New China News Agency reported.

More bodies were buried beneath the collapsed crane at the Shanghai Hudong Shipyard, according to the report and an official at the yard.

Workers were elevating the crane when it fell, bringing down a structure where 30 laborers were working. The cause of the accident was under investigation, said the Chinese official, who would not give her name.
