Open House to Be Held for a Rebuilt Reservoir
A two-hour community open house will be held today to mark the completion of more than 10 years of repairs at the newly reconfigured Rowena Reservoir in Los Feliz.
Built in 1902, the open-air reservoir was rebuilt after state officials ordered it closed in 1991 because of an earthen dam weakened by the 1987 Whittier earthquake. A new 10-million-gallon underground storage tank was installed and it was covered by two small ponds of recyclable water, several waterfalls, landscaping and other improvements at a cost of $14 million.
Beginning at 5 p.m., Department of Water and Power officials will lead tours of the tank and the beautified pumping and chlorination stations at the reservoir, at Rowena and Hyperion avenues.
