From Times Wire Reports

The sister of a veteran labor activist in China has been sentenced to three years in a labor camp for helping him stage a hunger strike, a human rights group said.

Li Wangling was charged with subversion and sentenced this month in Shaoyang in the southern province of Hunan, said the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy.

Li’s brother, Wangyang, served a prison term for “counterrevolutionary activity” and was released in June 2000. Contending that prison abuse ruined his health, he went on a hunger strike in February.
