No Perfect Score for New Olympic President

Share

By denying Anita DeFrantz of the United States and Kim Un Yong of South Korea, the International Olympic Committee reaffirmed its long-suspected, white-male, European-only bigotry (“Belgian Wins Olympic Presidency,” July 17). The 11th-hour, brazenly false accusation against Kim--whose candidacy was a clear threat--by the Netherlands’ Prince of Orange seemed desperate. Long live the IOC, the Intra-European Olympic Conspiracy!

Does the discontent with the outcome of the IOC election sound familiar? It does not surprise me that people are unhappy with the outcome. DeFrantz gets the gold medal for the Al Gore impersonation marathon. Sure, she is bitter. But who really cares? It is the Olympics. When was the last time there was no controversy around a site selection or an athlete?

DeFrantz should be quiet, deal with the outcome and move on. Maybe she could ask for a recount. I’m sure there were a few hanging chads that messed up the count.
