11 Soldiers Killed in Helicopter Incidents

A Russian military helicopter crashed in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains in southeastern Chechnya, killing nine soldiers and injuring five others, the Defense Ministry said.

The MI-8 helicopter crashed near the village of Engenoy. The two pilots were among the survivors.

In a separate incident, a Russian warrant officer was reported killed and another serviceman injured when their helicopter was hit by ground fire in Chechnya. The chopper was flying low near the village of Nozhai-Yurt, a Chechen official said.
