From Staff and Wire Reports

Four cruise ship passengers tried to smuggle $3 million worth of cocaine and heroin into the country inside dozens of shoes, U.S. Customs officials said.

The women were arrested Thursday after Carnival Cruise Line’s ship Imagination docked at the Port of Miami. The ship was returning after a cruise to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

A customs inspector sent the women to a second checkpoint because they seemed nervous during disembarkation interviews, a customs spokeswoman said.

The four were charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs. They face at least 10 years in prison if convicted.
