BMW of Germany has garnered a lot of publicity for its hydrogen-fueled test cars and the robotic filling station it built for them at its Southern California test facility.
But American Honda Motor Co. hasn't been sleeping. The U.S. unit of the No. 2 Japanese auto maker also is developing hydrogen-fueled vehicles and this month beat the Bavarians to the punch by opening Southern California's first hydrogen production and fueling station, right. The solar-powered facility at American Honda headquarters in Torrance started operating July 10, two days before BMW cut the ribbon at its hydrogen station in Oxnard.
The two stations are for corporate-test-fleet use only.
