Designer Relives His Travels
When Eric Brun-Sanglard lost his sight five years ago at the age of 33, he started redesigning homes with the help of such tools as a machine that creates Braille versions of floor plans.
So far, Brun-Sanglard, who grew up in the French Alps ski resort of Chamonix, has redesigned and rebuilt six homes in the Beverly Hills and West Hollywood areas. Each is different.
“As a child, I traveled a lot with my parents to such places as Morocco, Spain and Turkey,” he said. “I bring a lot of those memories into my design.”
His houses have sold at prices in the $2-million range.
This house is his latest work, one that he has called home for about a year.

About this house: At first, this was a 1960s post-and-beam home. Brun-Sanglard turned it into a contemporary villa with Mediterranean/Southeast Asian overtones. He draws upon his other senses to give the home touches that lend a Zen quality, with water features and wide-open living spaces. The house has what one observer calls “touches of Bali.”

Features: In the hills just off the Sunset Strip, the home has city-to-ocean views, a gated entry, private courtyard, 14-foot entry gallery and bamboo floors combined with limestone and colored glass tiles. Each bedroom has a bath, and the master has a walk-in closet and steam shower. There are two private patios with contemporary fountains. The backyard has a pool and a spa.
