‘Buffy’s’ New Home

In all the hoopla surrounding “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” defecting from the WB network to UPN, Dean Valentine spoke about how inheriting this aged series would change his network’s image (“Buffy the Rules Slayer,” by T.L. Stanley, May 20). Too bad equal attention isn’t being given to a long-running series that Valentine recently canceled, one that helped put UPN on the map in the first place: “Moesha.”
The show presented a positive role model for young African Americans. Possibly the reason Valentine hasn’t shown it more respect is because he didn’t originally schedule it. After all, he was the man who gave us “The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer.”

Valentine is quoted as saying that acquiring the program will enable him to “attract more top-notch producers” to his low-rated network.
If this was his intention, then he didn’t have to shell out millions to filch another network’s show. All he had to do was resign. Think of the savings!
