Bias Against Gay Youths

We appreciate the May 31 article regarding the Human Rights Watch findings that gay and lesbian students in the nation’s public schools face pervasive discrimination. Those of us who have gay children have known for years the heartbreak of watching our kids suffer and fear school with no support or help from those in charge of educating them. Since most parents of gay, lesbian or bisexual kids also have non-gay kids, we are very aware of the unjustified prejudice and discrimination gay and lesbian students experience daily.

We are also ashamed of our government’s lack of appropriate action and concern for the human rights and safety of our gay youths and citizens while self-righteously criticizing other countries for human rights violations.
