After 18 months on the job, City Manager Browning Allen has quit his $87,500-a-year post, saying it costs too much to live in Santa Barbara County.
The City Council voted unanimously to accept his resignation, which was effective Wednesday, Vice Mayor Dick Weinberger said.
Allen’s resignation letter cited the high cost of living in Carpinteria as the reason for leaving.
Allen had been city manager since Jan. 18, 2000. He came to Carpinteria from Cathedral City, where he served as an assistant city manager from 1993 to July 1999.
