Rebel Leader Threatens to Behead 3 U.S. Captives

From Times Wire Reports

A Muslim rebel leader holding three Americans hostage threatened to behead them Sunday unless the Philippine government appoints two Malaysian negotiators to mediate their release.

Abu Sabaya of the Abu Sayyaf rebel group--which seeks to create a Muslim state in the southern Philippines--had earlier said he would kill the three at noon Thursday unless his demands were met.

With the crisis in its 11th day, the government pledged more attacks on the guerrillas.
