Bush to Nominate Tenn. Banker to Fed

President Bush has decided to nominate Tennessee banker and economist Susan Schmidt Bies to fill one of two vacancies on the Federal Reserve Board, the White House said. She will be nominated to serve the remainder of a 14-year term that expires Jan. 31, 2012.
If confirmed by the Senate, Bies, executive vice president of risk management at First Tennessee National Corp., would bring hands-on banking experience to the seven-member central bank board, which currently has no bankers on it.
