Maybe Garofalo Needs a Course in Ethics
Re “Garofalo Wants City to Pay His Legal Fees,” June 3:
Neither Huntington Beach City Councilman Dave Garofalo nor his attorney seems to have a passing acquaintance with basic ethical concepts. Conducting oneself ethically includes avoiding all that might give even the appearance of conflict. To claim that he did not actually profit from his conduct is no defense whatsoever.
His attorney asks where we will get public service candidates when they see what “happened” to his client, that is, being held accountable for unethical behavior. Isn’t the real question why anyone would ever refrain from unethical behavior if no one is ever held to answer for it?
