Remembering the Desert’s ‘Magical’ Miracle Worker

Thank you for the essay by Jack Spiegelman about a wonderful person named Lois (“Miracle Manor,” May 13). Her full name was Lois Blackhill, and I was fortunate enough to have worked with her in the early ‘80s at Two Bunch Palms Resort and Spa in Desert Hot Springs. There are some things that happen in life that leave a lasting impression. Lois was that way for me. She was magical and ageless, just as Spiegelman stated. I was doing massages for a living, and Lois was doing facials. These were not ordinary facials, but spiritual healings. Lois would soothe you with sage while your mask was on, and if she did an extraction, she would use a piece of fresh aloe vera plant to heal the site. Thank you for rekindling a memory of a beautiful person who has always been in my heart.
