From Times Staff Reports

A man whose backyard is home to two alligators, 100 exotic birds, two potbellied pigs and two chickens can keep the animals for now.

The City Council voted 4 to 1 Tuesday to uphold Nicholas Amodio’s appeal of the city planning director’s earlier decision not to let the animals stay. The council will review the situation in August.

About 100 residents attended the meeting, many to support Amodio, who lives on Savona Walk.

“I feel wonderful,” Amodio said after the vote. “It’s a big relief. It’s kind of neat that all the neighbors came in to back me up.”
