An off-duty Downey police officer shot and critically wounded a man who allegedly rammed into his vehicle during a pursuit Tuesday night in Hollywood, authorities said.
Deon Speer, 34, allegedly fled from a CHP vehicle after a traffic violation, police said. During the pursuit, the car collided with one driven by an off-duty officer at Martel Avenue.
The officer pursued and called 911 on a cell phone, said LAPD Officer Jason Lee. Speer allegedly turned his vehicle around and drove into the officer's vehicle in the 8000 block of Woodland Lane, Lee said.
The officer shot Speer multiple times, Lee said.
The LAPD is investigating the shooting. Speer was in stable condition at a local hospital, Lee said.
