Using a computerized lottery system, Los Angeles County this week chose its first civil grand jury.
The 23 grand jurors and four alternates were chosen Wednesday in Superior Court, said Kyle Christopherson, a court spokesman.

Civil grand jurors will serve from July 1 to June 30, 2002, Christopherson said.
