Landlord Gets Jail Time for Immigration Fraud

A wealthy landlord who admitted bringing teenage girls into the country for sex was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday.

Lakireddy Bali Reddy, 64, of Berkeley will also pay $2 million in restitution to his victims.

Reddy and four relatives were charged with bringing about 50 foreigners to work in the Bay Area since 1986 for less than minimum wage at some of his 1,000 apartments and restaurants.

He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud, two counts of transporting a minor for illegal sex, and one count of submitting a false tax return in 1998 for lying about having foreign bank accounts in India.
