‘Jay Jay’s’ Writers

Share

Thanks for your coverage of the debut of “Jay Jay the Jet Plane” on PBS and the interview with Jay Jay’s creator, David Michel (“Coming In for a Landing at PBS,” by Susan King, June 11). He mentioned a team of “five writers,” a point that needs clarification.

As executive story editor for the show, I have been solely responsible for supervising the writing for “Jay Jay” and I have personally written over half of the show’s 40 episodes. The “five writers” David was vaguely referring to must be the additional outside writers who have also contributed scripts under my supervision. Beyond that, a team of talented producers, animators and one very talented director, Hugh Martin, are responsible for the actual production of the show, none of whom were mentioned--all of whom were assembled by producer Andrea Tompkins and executive producer Bruce Johnson of Porchlight Entertainment. And no article about “Jay Jay” would be complete without noting the wonderful real-time computer animation technology supplied by Modern Cartoons, a company headed by Chris Walker, who is also a co-executive producer on the show.
