You Make the Call

Share

I am not against cell phones. I have one myself, but I use it as a supplement. Everywhere you go you see an increasing number of people milling around while attached to a cell phone at the ear (and worse yet, while driving). They’re always speaking nonstop and rarely stop to listen for a response. It makes me wonder if there really is someone on the other end.

Have the phenomenal technological advances affected our lifestyles in such a way as to create a deep hunger for human contact? With the decrease of opportunities for face-to-face interaction, has the cell phone become a substitute filler for that hunger, and has it driven people to make-believe phone contacts (what people so casually refer to as virtual reality)? How tragic that would be.
