Tehran Attack Damages Government Building

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A mortar attack damaged a government-owned building in Tehran, Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency reported. An armed opposition group claimed the attack was part of an assault on four buildings that caused heavy casualties.
According to IRNA, witnesses said a mortar shell hit the offices of the Foundation for the Needy and Disabled in northern Tehran on Monday night.
Moujahedeen Khalq claimed responsibility.
IRNA did not mention casualties and did not describe the extent of the damage. On Tuesday, no damage could be seen from outside the high walls guarding the foundation building and a police headquarters in the same compound.
The foundation, which aids war veterans and the poor, receives government funding and operates under the supervision of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement, Moujahedeen Khalq said the attack was an act of solidarity with workers recently laid off by the foundation.
