William Nisselson; Post-Production Chief in Movie Industry
William Nisselson, 56, the longtime manager of Sound One studios, a leading post-production film company in New York City, died June 19 of heart failure at his office in Manhattan’s Brill Building.
A native New Yorker, Nisselson was a pivotal figure in the city’s film community, overseeing sound mixing and editing for many leading directors, including Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee.
Nisselson joined Sound One as a production coordinator in 1980 after pursuing a series of jobs, including driving taxis and working in the city’s garment industry.
“He was someone who bent over backward to make it easy for people who were just starting out,” filmmaker Joel Coen told the New York Times.
Indeed, the credits of many major films over the last decade include the line: Special thanks to Bill Nisselson.
