Subscribers to News Service Get Spammed
Subscribers to a congressional news service’s e-mail list got some unwanted messages Thursday morning when a misconfiguration left the list open.
A mistake allowed the roughly 3,000 subscribers of Congressional Quarterly’s e-mail list to receive an outside message hawking a Jamaican lottery Web site. When CQ’s customers e-mailed to complain, the same hole forwarded the replies to everyone on the list.
“We have replied to everyone who got spammed,” CQ Executive Editor David Rapp said, adding that the subscribers were forgiving.
