Bush Appeals for Tax Cut Support

From Times Wire Reports

President Bush made a direct appeal to Americans to support his tax cut and budget, and help him assemble a congressional majority to ensure passage.

The president, who outlined his priorities in a prime-time speech last week at the Capitol, said in his weekly radio address, “Our federal budget must be good for the family budget. That was my message to Congress on Tuesday. And now, I hope you’ll send a message in favor of tax relief to your congressman and your senator.”

Rep. John M. Spratt Jr. of South Carolina, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, said in response that the projected 10-year surplus upon which Bush’s plan is based may not materialize, and he suggested a smaller cut.
