Michael Stockstill, senior director of media relations at the Irvine Co., has resigned after only four months on the job, he and the real estate development company said Monday.

Stockstill said he left Friday to work in a consulting position, which he declined to name.

Stockstill, who previously worked for the Newport Beach company from 1978 to 1991, is the latest in a long list of executives and employees who have quit Orange County’s largest landowner in the past year.

Among others who have left were Gary H. Hunt, once a key aide to chairman and owner Donald L. Bren, and a number of his top community and government relations executives, including Larry Thomas, Carol Hoffman, Franz Wisner and Paul Kranhold.

Stockstill also has worked for the Transportation Corridor Agencies, Southern California Edison and county managed-care provider Cal-Optima. He also helped lead the campaign for Measure R, the 1995 ballot initiative that would have added a half-cent sales tax to help the county out of its historic bankruptcy. The measure failed.
