Outspoken Separatist New Quebec Premier

Outspoken separatist Bernard Landry became the new premier of Quebec. His leadership is expected to reinvigorate a sovereignty movement that has slid into apathy.
Landry’s predecessor, Lucien Bouchard, announced his surprise resignation in January, saying he was unable to gain support for the separatist movement and Quebec sovereignty.
In a 15-minute inaugural address, Landry said his arrival at the helm of French-speaking Quebec means a “new impetus toward the full national affirmation” of the province.
