A Mission Viejo bike rider who lost his way in the Santa Ana mountains and spent the night in stormy weather was found unhurt Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Alberto Almanza, 31, managed to signal an Orange County Fire Authority helicopter as it scoured the mountains for him about 3:25 p.m., said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Paddock.

Almanza’s family reported the experienced biker missing Saturday morning after he failed to return from a ride along the San Juan Trail, Paddock said.

Almanza left Friday afternoon but got lost as a storm moved in. Wearing a coat, he hunkered down under some trees until morning, Paddock said.
