A Better Mouse

The hitch to being an early adopter is that half the time you’re a visionary and half the time you’re an idiot. We’re still split on Sony’s proprietary Memory Stick technology. But we agree that the $90 Memory Stick Mouse is pretty cool.

The device is essentially an optical Universal Serial Bus mouse with a Memory Stick port that enables users to transfer data at high speed from their sticks to their computers. It took us about 45 seconds to move a 13-megabyte file of digital pictures from the stick to the desktop. Not bad.

The real allure is the convenience. Because the mouse is pretty handy in its own right, the addition of the Memory Stick port is pure gravy. It shows up as a removable drive on the computer and is a snap to use.
