* Re “Auto Club Election,” Ventura County letters, Feb. 25.

As the manager of the Thousand Oaks office of the Auto Club of Southern California, I was dismayed by this letter from Robin Westmiller. My office was not in a state of chaos when she visited Feb. 6, and election activities are not interrupting member services.

Westmiller is one of a slate of four candidates who want to use the auto club for a narrow political agenda. The auto club has worked hard on behalf of members on every issue raised by the challengers, but its reputation and integrity in the Legislature and with its members is based on its objectivity and nonpartisanship.

While we believe our original proxies, solicited on behalf of incumbent board members, satisfy all legal standards, the auto club is now including the challengers on all proxies for the April 9 election.

Westmiller says the court stopped the auto club from “campaigning for incumbents.” In fact, the court refused to do so.
