Dick Gregory Hurt During Rainstorm
Social activist and humorist Dick Gregory was hospitalized briefly after a tree fell on his car during a wind and rainstorm in the nation’s capital.
“We wanted to make sure everything was OK with the spine and head,” said Paula Faria, a spokeswoman for Georgetown University Hospital.
Gregory, 68, gained fame in the 1960s as a comedian and civil rights activist who staged several hunger strikes to draw attention to causes.
He was driving when his car was hit in one of a number of accidents in the city involving downed trees.
