Party Leader and Activists Detained

Pakistani police arrested the acting leader of a major party and more than 60 activists as they tried to reach the site of a banned rally against military rule, witnesses said.
Javed Hashmi, acting president of the Pakistan Muslim League, was arrested after leaving a hotel in Lahore, and dozens of activists were detained as they tried to march to a park in the city, where a rally to kick off a campaign against government leaders was scheduled.
