Gamester Repeats Irwindale Success

Russ Gamester returned to the site of his last win in the United States Auto Club Coors Light Silver Bullet Series on Saturday night with a near-record victory in the K&N; Classic 100-lap main event before 5,264 at Irwindale Speedway.

Gamester, who started 20th, overtook leader Aaron Fike out of turn 2 on the backstretch of lap 62. Fike had taken the lead from David Steele on lap 14 after Steele spun out in turn 1.

“I said that I’d be back for this race, because there’s so much track here, you can race high or low and still stay competitive,” Gamester said. “We made a lot of changes from last year, and we’re going to seriously contend for the title.”

Gamester was on pace to break the track record he set last season in the Silver Bullet Series’ last appearance at Irwindale. Gamester finished in 37 minutes 54.7 seconds, only six minutes slower than his winning time in October.
