Chinese Accused of Dumping Windshields

Associated Press

The Commerce Department is investigating whether Chinese manufacturers of vehicle windshields are selling their products in the United States below the cost of production or at a lower price than in China--an illegal practice known as dumping. The department opened the investigation last week at the request of three U.S. glassmakers, PPG Industries Inc., Apogee Enterprises Inc. and Safelite Glass Corp. If the department finds that the Chinese firms are dumping the products, it could add duties to bring the windshield prices in line. The U.S. companies say the Chinese manufacturers are pricing the windshield glass from 9% to 57% lower here than in China.
