Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) priced shares in its Agere Systems Inc. spinoff at $6 each Tuesday, raising $3.6 billion, or less than half what it originally expected. Lucent offered 600 million shares of its optical components and semiconductors unit at the bottom of its most recently reduced price range of $6 to $7. The shares were initially pegged at $20. Agere is expected to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange today, symbol AGR.A. . . . Standard & Poor’s said Tuesday that Mirant Corp. (MIR) will replace Briggs & Stratton Corp. (BGG) in the S&P; 500 index after the close of trading on Monday. Briggs & Stratton will be transferred to the S&P; SmallCap 600 index.
