Bacani Leads Titans Over Miami

Cal State Fullerton, ranked 24th in the nation in baseball, jumped to an early lead and defeated fourth-ranked Miami, 8-2, Friday at Coral Gables, Fla.

The Titans (17-10) handed Miami starter Brian Walker (7-1) his first loss, roughing him up for seven runs on six hits in four innings. Miami is 25-7.

Second baseman David Bacani was three for three and hit his third home run for the Titans. Bacani also stole three bases, a career high.

Titan shortstop Mike Rouse had three hits and an RBI. Aaron Rifkin hit his seventh home run--and third in three games--in the eighth inning and Louie Lamoure added his first home run of the season in the third.

Titan starter Jon Smith (6-0) struck out 11 and gave up seven hits over eight innings.

In the Anteater Classic men’s tennis tournament:

Sacramento State 6, UC Irvine 1--David Matthew was the only UC Irvine singles player to win a match after Sacramento State’s Fabio Jesus defaulted with Matthew leading, 6-4, 3-6, 4-1.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Missouri 6, Cal State Fullerton 1--The Titans won two of three doubles matches to account for their one point. Adrian Hockinson and Eleanor Luzano won the No. 1 doubles match, and Michelle Arndt and Ana Iacob won at No. 3. Fullerton is 3-14, Missouri 12-5.

Harvard 6, UC Irvine 1--Jonny Seymour scored the only point for the Anteaters with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Harvard’s Sanja Bajiu.

In nonconference women’s water polo:

Anteaters drop two--No. 12 UC Davis defeated UC Irvine, 8-4, and 15th-ranked Cal Baptist beat the Anteaters, 8-7. Erica Horman scored three goals in the two games for UC Irvine (1-15).
