“James Welling: Photographs 1974-1999,” a traveling retrospective opening Sunday at the Museum of Contemporary Art showcases the artist’s often dry, Conceptually-based photographs that capture architectural facades, lighting fixtures and other surfaces.

East West Players’ presents “An Afternoon With David Henry Hwang,” a discussion with the playwright whose works include the Tony Award-winning “M. Butterfly,” “Golden Child” and the adaptations of “Aida” and “Flower Drum Song.” Soon-Tek Oh, Amy Hill, Beulah Quo, Kerri Higuchi, Reggie Lee and June Kyoko Lu will read scenes and excerpts from Hwang’s work. Playwright Philip Kan Gotanda will moderate a post-performance Q&A.;
