From Times Wire Reports

State tax officials are in the process of seizing a $5-million bank account that had been used by pardoned financier Marc Rich to pay legal expenses, Associated Press learned.

The move is part of state efforts to recover about $137 million that authorities say Rich owes in state and New York City income taxes.

Rich left the United States in 1983 rather than face racketeering and other criminal charges. President Clinton’s pardon of the financier is under investigation by federal prosecutors, with the cooperation of Rich’s former wife, Denise, a major Democratic contributor.
