Telecommunications giant MCI must refund half a million dollars in overcharges on collect phone calls made by California prisoners to their families. The state Public Utilities Commission told MCI Telecommunications Corp. to use the $522,458 to help reduce the cost of future inmate calls from California prisons. The Utility Consumer Action Network filed the complaint against MCI in June 1999. MCI later corrected billing problems and negotiated the settlement.

* Razorfish Inc., a New York-based Web site designer and Internet consultant, said co-founder Jeff Dachis has resigned as chief executive and will be replaced by Jean-Philippe Maheu as the company reported a loss for its first quarter. The company lost $6.63 million, or 7 cents a share, contrasted with profit of $6.48 million, or 7 cents, a year earlier.
