Train Robber Biggs Wants to Go Home

Fugitive Ronnie Biggs of Britain’s notorious “Great Train Robbery” gang has told London police that he wants to return home after 35 years on the run.
Biggs, now 71 and ailing, was part of a gang that stole $7.3 million--nearly $47 million in today’s dollars--from a mail train Aug. 8, 1963. He escaped from prison in 1965 and underwent plastic surgery. He later settled in Brazil.
Biggs’ representative in London said the fugitive is prepared to turn himself in to authorities. “My last wish is to walk into a Margate pub as an Englishman and buy a pint of bitter,” Biggs told Britain’s Sun tabloid.
