Woodbridge Sweeps Sea View Titles

Erik Oijala of Woodbridge bounced back from a first-set loss to Irvine’s Eric Aarnaes and won the Sea View League boys’ tennis singles title Thursday at the Racquet Club of Irvine. The scores were 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Brett Van Linge and Dijan Noroozi of Woodbridge took the doubles title, defeating Chris Young and Trevor Cunningham of Aliso Niguel, 6-4, 7-5.

In the Olympic League:

Warriors win--Brethren Christian’s John Bowman defeated teammate Mike Mirliss, 6-0, 6-1, to win the singles title. Bryan Bui and Nathan Klitzing of Orange Lutheran captured the doubles title.

In the Freeway League diving finals:

Raiders win--Sonora’s Mike Copeland (402.15) won the boys’ division, and sophomore Stephanie Savage (309.05) was first in the girls’ division.

For the boys, Sonora’s Zaven Altounian (363.45) was second, followed by Buena Park’s Jeff Drobik (315.4), Sunny Hills’ Shane Tanner (303.25) and Blake Green (290.70), also of Sonora.

Jessica Ajoux (292.85) of Sunny Hills was second in the girls’ division, followed by Sonora’s Kim Cordero (270.65), Sunny Hills’ Margaret Lim (178.80) and Julia Christenson (149.25) of Sonora.

In the Sunset League:

Edison edges Marina--Evan Mitchell, with 473.85 points, and teammate Zack Simpson, with 388.75, took second and third and helped Edison to a first-place finish with 48 points. Marina’s Ryan Rincon, who scored a meet-high 479.55 points, helped the Vikings to a second-place finish (46 points). Fountain Valley was third (33), Esperanza fourth (18) and Los Alamitos fifth (seven).

In the girls’ finals, Edison’s Allison Brennan won her third consecutive Sunset League title with 548.75 points, and led the Chargers to the team title with 54 points. Brooke Shea of Esperanza was second (361.40) and Lauren Avila of Fountain Valley third (351.05).

In the Olympic League golf finals:

Lancers triumph--League champion Orange Lutheran (9-1) had two golfers tie for first in the 154-hole competition at Los Serranos and Westridge. Matt Amen (74-83-73--230) defeated Nathan Imondi (73-74-83--230) in a three-hole playoff to earn the individual title.

In the Orange League finals:

Heintz wins--Sophomore Chris Heintz had a three-day total of three-under 212 at Dad Miller, Alta Vista and Western Hills.

In the Golden West League swimming finals:

Tustin sweeps--Mike Cavic and Sarah Bajorek were named swimmers of the meet as Tustin dominated at Tustin High School.

In the boys’ finals, Tustin outdistanced Ocean View, 612-282. Cavic, who competed for Yugoslavia in the 2000 Olympics, won the 200 freestyle in 1 minutes 43.50 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 52.35. He also anchored Tustin’s winning freestyle relay teams.

Tustin also claimed an easy victory in the girls’ finals over Ocean View, 515-403. Bajorek won league titles in the 50 (26.47) and 100 freestyle (56.70) and swam on two victorious relay teams.

In the Garden Grove League finals:

Garden Grove wins--The Argonauts won the boys’ title with 317 points. La Quinta was second (229) and Rancho Alamitos third (220). Greg Reeves of Garden Grove won the 200 freestyle (1:56.48) and 100 butterfly (58.63).

Marissa Ishii won the 50 freestyle (27.67), Cassandra Swick won the 100 butterfly (1:11.21) and Alicia Trussell won the 100 breaststroke (1:16.94) to help lead the Pacifica girls’ team to victory with 346 points. Garden Grove was second (287) and Los Amigos third (192).

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

El Dorado 3, Loara 1--Nick Lehnert had 29 kills and Kevin Cook had 19 for visiting El Dorado (15-3, 10-0) in a 15-8, 10-15, 15-3, 15-12 victory.

In Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 3, Aliso Niguel 1--Morgan Craig had 17 kills, Greg Perrine had 12 and Jamie Diefenbach had 10 kills and four stuff blocks for Newport Harbor (10-7, 6-2), which narrowly lost the first game, 14-16, then dominated Aliso Niguel, 15-0, 15-6, 15-1.
