Former Senate Leader to Speak at Graduation

Former Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell of Maine will serve as Cal Lutheran University’s commencement speaker on May 12. He is also to receive an honorary law degree from the school.
Mitchell was appointed to the Senate in 1980 and later elected to two terms. He served as Senate majority leader from 1989 until his retirement in 1995. Mitchell brokered peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, which earned him a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
